First day of the #Minnesota Legislative Session opened in a good way along with our allies at the Rise and Repair alliance. We’re grateful for their leadership on legislative proposals to protect the land, water, and Indigenous rights.

The Three Waters team is actively pursuing legislator support for two bills that would help protect MN from the risks of oil #pipelines. Join our meeting next Thursday to learn more about our legislative initiatives.

The afternoon honored the late Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark; as well as Senator John Hoffman who returned to session, following the assassination attacks last June. May this legislative season celebrate their service, reckon with their loss, and advance protections for all Minnesotans.

This morning in Minneapolis:

Somebody posted in one of the local chats that their neighbor didn’t come home last night, looking for help finding them. Family doesn’t know where they are. They’d been taking the legal path to seek asylum. ICE doesn’t have their name (but that means very little; they hide names, kidnap anonymously, even discard people’s IDs).

Meanwhile, confirmed ICE sightings are ramping up in my area now after some relative early morning quiet.

We need justice, accountability, and freedom from this oppression.

This past week, our communities and neighbors have been terrorized by the presence of federal agents across #Minnesota and the Twin Cities. Federal #ICE agents in unmarked cars have been wrongfully arresting individuals regardless of their citizenship or immigration status. This is a direct result of President Trump’s disparaging and untruthful comments about Somalis and Somali-Americans last week. This racist speech and directives are meant to sow fear into immigrant families and people of color across the US.

The Three Waters Pipeline Resistance Team is in direct opposition to these harmful statements and kidnappings. Those of us who live in Minnesota can attest to Somali Americans strengthening our community - they are neighbors, parents, students, business owners, elected officials, and above all they are human. No one is deserving of the rhetoric of this Administration and we are committed to continuing to show up when human and civil rights are being violated.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has abruptly announced a supplemental Environmental Impact Statement process for the Line 5 replacement project. The supplemental EIS is focused on an HDD (horizontal directional drilling) project in the straits in addition to the EIS for the tunnel project.

Started off No Kings day yesterday with conversations at the Midtown Farmers Market -- we're grateful to them for hosting us this year!

Over 50 people showed up last night to hear an update on the damage to the Line 3 pipeline corridor in MN from drone pilot Bee Kakac!

We need our state agencies to do better -- not only in monitoring and holding Enbridge accountable for this damage, but preventing it by not allowing pipelines through our precious waters.
