The Counterforce

The goal of The Counterforce is to strengthen and grow the hardcore punk underground that still exists outside of this corporate capture. Rather than funnel punk into profit-driven walled gardens, we want to foment and encourage a culture that is autonomous and independent. This is not just a nostalgic, backward-facing project – we want to explore new alternatives for spreading hardcore punk online and offline.

I can barely imagine a time before MRR and Dischord but Dan Destructo lived it. In his interview, he describes the beginnings of his band NO FRAUD, the birth of a hardcore scene in 1980s SW #Florida, and the formation of underground networks of international distribution by and for youth at that time.

Two-page black & white spread of a half-size zine featuring the cover page of an interview with Dan Destructo of the hardcore band No Fraud. The left pages featured a large portrait of Dan. He is speaking and gesturing with his had while looking into the camera intensely. The right pages features the intro to the interview beginning with the line “No Fraud has been a band for over forty years.” The page is laid out in cut & paste style and there is a small photo of Downtown Venice Florida in the 1990s at the bottom.

As one half of REPETITIVE STRAIN on Voices Radio, I've accidentally ended up writing a monthly blog (with fellow rectangle music enthusiast VANITY CRYSTAL). Listen to February's show here, read a bit about what's good and [redacted].

A nominally punk radio show.

Is the DISCHARGE guy wearing sunglasses :CoolGarfield:? An eye patch :hacker:? Are they confused 😖 ? Are they sad 🙁? Are those two lips or is it lips and a chin crease?
What is the line beside the :anarchism: ? Is it an ! with the bottom cut off? Is it a hair part?

Only thing thats for sure is that they are certainly concerned about nuclear war.

Please tell me your opinions.

Reviewsssss. What did the shitworkers think this week?

maximumrocknroll.com/reviews/

Review of At Night's self titled LP from Maximum Rocknroll. With the record cover which has a grey scale image of the city of Philadelphia with the 4 band members superimposed over it, each oriented on a different corner of the cover and colored grey, blue, magenta and yellow

The text is as follows:

At Night
At Night LP
I can’t quite place these guys in any specific genre and I love that. They truly have created something entirely their own, drawing on more pop or indie-style vocals with the occasional synth, keyboard, and distorted guitar. The standout track for me is “I’m Afraid They’re All Talking About Me,” as it felt so unique and powerful from multiple vocalists repeating the same line (sans instruments) that quickly dropped into an utter explosion of guitar and noise. Overall, a really fun band worth listening to.

Just made a few new posts on the DIY Conspiracy forum. There's not much activity at the moment but still trying to keep old-school message boards alive. I've always preferred this way more than twitter-like places.

Seeing the Discord age verification news making people, perhaps a little performatively, being "that's it, I'm quitting right now!" has got me thinking about if there's many networks that are immune from calls to leave?

Punk World, as ever, runs on Instagram (and WhatsApp) although every self-coded website gives me optimism, and there really is a collective amnesia about YouTube's Google ownership even when talking about divesting from them entirely due to BDS/ICE/etc. What Is To Be Done

@anothersubculture

This is awesome. A longstanding goal here has been to create a Counterforce webring for punk sites. I'm so happy that an active punk webring is going!!
