‘A good way of dealing with overpopulation’: Epstein files reveal how the rich fuel climate denialism
fastcompany.com/91490280/epste
Jeffrey Epstein and his vast network of elite figures routinely traded in myths that undermine climate progress. Experts say it’s not an accident.

@okohll thank you! Swing by any time, there’s a public footpath. I’ll show you around if I’m there (look for a very very hairy and tired man)

@vincentbiret they’re nothing to do with wildlife. Basically it’s a historic thing we’ve done to keep livestock in, and over the years there have been some bonus features like off-road motorbikes not being able to get in. Theres nothing grazing these fields now so no need to have it there at all, and we’ve got other gates elsewhere to keep motorbikes out.

@DoomsdaysCW @EdibleFuchsia for the Solar punks: we are converting an old horse box left on the land to make it a solar horse box! Will charge batteries with some old canal boat bits, so I can charge electric chainsaws and stay fossil fuel free. 🫡

@Sarah111well oh I’ve been “destroying a hedge” aaaaaallllll day!

2026-02-21

“It was there for a reason.”

Yes the reason is the previous owners had livestock. We don't have livestock so no need for stiles.

People letting prey drive dogs chase ground nesting and wading birds in a nature reserve is a different discussion which is not being changed with or without a stile.

Ahh no I’m getting in trouble with randos on the internet for doing the right thing. Shucks.

Whenever there is a decision to be made between improving access for people with mobility issues scrambling over a slippery wooden stile, and a fun little novelty for completely able bodied people, there is an obvious decision to make that is legally entirely ours to make. 🫡

Some people getting upset a footpath was made more accessible.

I quite like stiles, They're a good hindrance for
errant dogs too, So protect the wildlife a wee bit
more than if it was open.

Absolutely no business of yours to wantonly
destroy a stile that was there for good reason.

@scattershot there’s beavers all up and down the Avon. They’re even in Bristol harbour! They’re having a rough one but this site will become a haven for them.

@matt2 thank you Matt! That was actually £45 you legend.

I am really excited to finally be working on Baths largest rewilding project! We fought for two years to get this land but Protect Earth is now worryingly broke and we have a lot of work that needs doing. Please dig in, and every donation up to £250 is being DOUBLED, plus gift aid if you’re a taxpayer!! Please please help us do this. crowdfunder.co.uk/p/warleigh-n

@Sarah111well we’ll be getting students in to continue amazing studies I’ve seen elsewhere. Basically bung a bunch in, test the capture rate, pop the tainted biochar into the next batch of biochar and the microplastics are burnt off. Continue. Will post findings! 🙌🏻

That said we need gear and have ecologists and contractors to hire to get the bigger stuff done.

The land purchase wiped out the charity coffers completely and the Warleigh Voluntary Task Force can only do so much.

That’s why we’ve launched a second crowdfunder.

Buy us “a pint” and get it doubled.

We can use the old pheasant fencing to protect the coppice from the muntjac deer who browse the heck out of everything.

Shoot the deer and feed our volunteers venison.

Get the volunteers to rip out more old pheasant fencing and restore the woodland with the power of the invasive deer who would have completely destroyed the woodland over time.

It’s the circular economy!

Pretty much everything we want to do at Warleigh Nature Reserve can be done with what we already have on site. Natural regeneration over planting where possible. A willow fallen over a vehicle track propagated with 150 cuttings, and chunks used for leaky dams. Timber offcuts used for woodchip mulch.

I wanna make biochar out of Hazel Wood’s coppice and see if we can use that to filter microplastics out of the River Avon.

Site Manager Sam to the rescue at Warleigh Nature Reserve, fixing up @ProtectEarthUK’s busted compost toilet steps with the dead ash that was about to obliterate the rest of it. Roof next.

No need to buy in treated timber when we’ve got fally down trees ready to go.

(Don’t worry, there’s infinite standing deadwood habitat remaining and we don’t cut it all down, in fact we’ll be making more for our woodpeckers to enjoy chasing bugs around).

An old wooden compost toilet in the woods. Steps made out of freshly cut dead ash timber with an amazing guard rail and some tools in the background.

@ecoscore I flew there years back for a tech conference but these days I’m trains and boats. There’s a cargo ship that’ll take me there but it’s about 20 days so next time! 😂

Morning litter-pick in Batheaston. Got two bags of bottles, cans, glass, scrap metal, and general nastiness out of where kids play and nature clings on to the edges. If you’d like to say thanks, the Warleigh Nature Reserve crowdfunder would love a few quid. crowdfunder.co.uk/p/warleigh-n

Litter picker and a bin bag sat on grass. Two black bin bags in front of a now littler free grass area, lined with hazel and a picnic bench to the side.

@steve that’s amazing! You’ll probably love it. Happy to answer questions you may have on your search. There’s lots of good local groups, the Kennet and Avon has an amazing WhatsApp full of constant knowledge sharing and people helping each other.
