The problem is not going to be addressed until we can prevent shops from selling e-bikes that aren't road legal.

You've always been able to buy a dirt bike for your child to ride around your property and this wasn't a problem because dirt bikes are obviously dirt bikes at a distance.

A police crackdown isn't going to have a large effect. They'll probably be able to get some of the bikes that look like motorbikes but the issue is that the only difference between a legal e-bike and an illegal motorbike at a distance is the speed it's currently going.

If illegal motorbikes are available for sale at every bike shop then parents are going to buy them for their children without even knowing they're illegal.

So my toot about helmet laws increasing heart disease has got a few replies by people wondering wtf. The way it works is that mandatory helmet laws reduce cycling, fewer people cycling results in an increase in obesity related illnesses like heart disease and diabetes.

One of, if not rhe best, things that a government can do to improve health at a population level is increasing active travel (walking and cycling).
