Watching hockey in a bar for the first time in 10 years. Sabres up 2
The women won the first one, the first Olympics I watched
The politics of it all are icky, but I dreamed of seeing men win the gold in hockey since I was a boy
I suck at looking for jobs. I suck at applying and interviewing.
I can excel at jobs I hate but I can’t seem to replace them. I only attract more jobs that I would hate
@Alice Donny boy is the poor man’s billionaire and Elon is the dumb man’s smart guy
@GeriAQuin this is just to enter? Wtf
I’ve read 6 books so far in 2026 - 2 were audio, but I count it
I’ve listened to Jim Butcher’s Dresden files, books 5 & 6
Read Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler series, 4 & 5
Patrick Worrall - The Partisan. A spy thriller centered around chess prodigies during the Cold War
Kay Chronister - The Bog Wife. A gothic horror (sorta)
@danirabbit my only complaints were with a feature that was new to me, but my old bank didn’t have.
Spending buckets show on the balance page but for a brief time they didn’t
@GeriAQuin I don’t get how narrow and short sighted someone can be. Thinks only of immediate personal gain
I love my cats
Forgot to mention King Lear
My reading goals for 2026
Finish Dungeon Crawler Carl series (have 3 left, plus 1 released this year)
Finish Dresden Files (13 more books, plus 1 released this year)
Complete Lord of the Rings
The Bluest Eye
A Jane Austen book
I forgot to mention my favorite non-fiction books I’ve read last year. Since I got distracted I’ll just make one post
• Empire of Pain (Radden Keefe)
• All the Shah’s Men (Kinzer)
• What Hath God Wrought (Walker Howe)
• The Devil in the White City (Larson
• Poison Ivy (Mandery)
Tomorrow I will talk about non-fiction
Other notes: I began and are continuing with 2 fantasy series
The Dresden Files. Jim Butcher
Dungeon Crawler Carl. Matt Dinniman
There were other books I loved but this was the short list.
• Withcraft for Wayward Girls
• The Guest List
• Death on the Nile
• Beautyland
• Les Misérables
Les Misérables.
Victor Hugo
I read this starting in August. Finished it yesterday. I have so much to say but will keep it short. I’ve wept multiple times. Every character makes a difference. The attention to detail. I have to think more since it’s been only a day since I’ve finished, but by god I loved it.
The Guest List.
Lucy Foley
A “girly pop” suspense. Building up to the end and the tie-it-all-together. I loved it. Characters felt fresh to me. Not predictable (other than the obvious genre stuff).
Death on the Nile.
Agatha Christie
Being exposed to Poirot through PBS rather than the novels, it is easy to see why this is a beloved series, with this entry considered the best. Much intrigue and misdirection.
Beautyland.
Marie-Helene Bertino
She’s an alien living undercover as a human. Metaphor for being a lone and struggling to fit in. Beautiful prose.
