Hopefully this is the year #qBIttorrent releases one client that supports v1 and v2 instead of keeping them separate! One can hope.

As one of the largest and most popular #bittorrent clients that decision has wrecked adoption of v2 torrents with all of their improvements. Even #Transmission only has a single client for both.

Giant update of the conferences collections completed, now I just need to update the Security BSides sub directory and then all cons will have been updated to AV1 for pseudo-streaming and English captions added! infocon.org/cons

Almost done with manually joining all the parts of early SOURCE conference talks. Once done I’ll encode and caption, and get them online. That’s almost the last of the defunct conferences getting re-encoded to AV1 with captions.

Time to rest. That was a giant push to get all the updates of the cons directory on the server.

Next is the long process of generating all the torrents and getting them in the tracker and on the torrent servers. That will take weeks, but at least the website has the latest.

Basically I’m trying to make sure that the history of hacking, original documents, news segments and other types of records or documents are available to anyone who wants to learn or create from them

@poiupoiu #PhreakNIC 26 now online, but it will be a while before the torrent files get generated.

2025-11-19

@poiupoiu We will get it going! Thanks for the heads up!

The RTX6000Ada is cooking along, encoding and captioning. A big update in the works, should be a week or two until the next one goes live.

Genuine question, can anyone explain to me why Kevin Spacey was involved in producing this #hacker documentary and why it was never officially released?

I know there were rumours about conflict among the producers, one of which is Spacey.

We have started a project to re-encode all the past conferences that are no longer operating.

Generally we just focus on updates, but over time as more cons stop operating we are leaving bhind those in he older video format (HEVC) for the newer, streamable, AV1

As we re-encode the older cons we also generate English captions and embed them into the video files.

This project should take over 6 months of “spare” time, hopefully complete by #DefCon 34!

@bink @defcon We have regenerated an updated mega #DefCon torrent that includes the newly released DC33 presentations. Please let us know if it works for you you.

@florianoverkamp @why2025camp I’m starting to manually rename HIP97 videos, but after the captioning translation script completes I’m basically out of content. I was hoping for some of the earliest camps.

2025-08-20

@rbroekman Yes found those, thanks for helping look. Just not sure if any recordings were made in those early days.

2025-08-20

@AldertHazenberg @cookingroffa That was a good find! Adding it to the documentaries collection.

I’m looking for audio or videos from early Dutch Hacker cons, does anyone know if they exist for Hacking In Progress (HIP97), Hacking at the End of the Universe (HEU93), or Galactic Hacker Party (GHP89) ?
