If you use AI-generated code, you currently cannot claim copyright on it in the US. If you fail to disclose/disclaim exactly which parts were not written by a human, you forfeit your copyright claim on *the entire codebase*.

This means copyright notices and even licenses folks are putting on their vibe-coded GitHub repos are unenforceable. The AI-generated code, and possibly the whole project, becomes public domain.

Excerpt from the linked document. It reads "The AI Guidance states that authors may claim copyright protection only “for their own contributions” to such works, and they must identify and disclaim AI-generated parts of the works"Excert from the linked document:

Three copyright registration denials highlighted by the Copyright Office illustrate that, in general, the office will not find human authorship where an AI program generates works in response to user prompts:

1. Zarya of the Dawn: A February 2023 decision that AI-generated illustrations for a graphic novel were not copyrightable, although the human-authored text of the novel and overall selection and arrangement of the images and text in the novel could be copyrighted.

2. Théâtre D’opéra Spatial: A September 2023 decision that an artwork generated by AI and then modified by the applicant could not be copyrighted, since the applicant failed to identify and disclaim the AI-generated portions of the work as required by the AI Guidance.

3. SURYAST: A December 2023 decision that an artwork generated by an AI system combining a “base image” (an original photo taken by the applicant) and a “style image” the applicant selected (Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night) could not be copyrighted, since the AI system was “responsible for determining how to interpolate [i.e., combine] the base and style images.”

Ring has announced a new “Search Party” feature that could eventually bring mass biometric surveillance to our streets. It’s on by default. Shut it off.

One of the more terrifying realities about the prospect of starting your own business in the US is that you quickly learn you are on your own when it comes to finding affordable healthcare. You might even make enough that you don't qualify for any plan that doesn't cost <$30k a year, w/ high deductibles.

I know I've mentioned this before here, but it bears repeating because it came up in a conversation the other day where the small biz owner had no idea. Namely, that depending on where you live, you may qualify for a fairly inexpensive and decent healthcare plan for you and your family just by taking a class at a local university or community college. NB: It may only require a non-degree (non-credit) course. Anyway, something to investigate if you're looking for a way to reduce your healthcare costs.

Edit: Meant to mention that a lot of universities will allow you to take the classes remotely online.

Shoutout to everyone who said OpenClaw & Rentahuman “make the Daemon real!”

Maybe you’re right, but I still say Sobol’s DAEMON has the edge on security. (see link)

The Daemon’s FAFO might just be a Razorback at your doorstep. ;-)

I highly recommend the Netflix documentary, COVER-UP, about Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh. He's devoted his career to uncovering news the powerful want buried.

A very timely subject ...

Protest ICE and they scan your face.
Three days later, your Global Entry and TSA PreCheck are gone.

No charges. No explanation.
Just surveillance → retaliation.
Facial recognition. Watchlists. Revoked privileges.
This isn't security It's Big Brother policing dissent in real time.

Congressman Ro Khanna via Bluesky today:

"Congress is not powerless. Democrats must unify around an actual agenda.

1. Vote no on DHS funding bill.

2. Repeal the multi-year $75 billion funding for ICE.

3. End qualified immunity for ICE agents.

4. Investigate and prosecute every single ICE agent who broke the law."

"5. Impeach Noem and Bondi.

6. End the Kavanaugh stops with racial profiling and end the militarization of ICE.

7. Codify a use of force standard so courts can enforce the law against rogue ICE agents.

8. Tear down and replace ICE with an agency that has oversight."

"Trump is engaged in the SYSTEMATIC destruction of the rule of law.

Only if Congress fights with every legal tool at our disposal including lawsuits in the courts, like we are doing with the Epstein files, can we stop this madness."

"We owe that to nurse Pretti and the hundreds of thousands on the streets risking their lives to stand up for our freedoms."

The world is being consumed by fascist leaders and corrupt political parties being supported by Russia and MAGA. Everyone must continue doing their part to stay informed, stay engaged, and continue resisting those who would destroy our democracies. "Witnesses say his last words were, “Don’t touch her,” followed almost immediately by, “Are you okay?” Those words live inside me now, because they carry the whole shape of who he was. That question doesn’t come from bravado or impulse. It comes from a life spent tending to pain, from days and nights shaped around care, from a body trained to respond to vulnerability without calculation."

Senators have a choice next week: They can vote for a DHS funding bill that gives ICE and CBP more money to brutalize our neighbors, or they can say ENOUGH. We must demand our senators refuse to give ICE and CBP one more penny or vote for any bill that won’t get these thugs the fuck out of our cities.

We can’t go on like this. It’s time for our leaders to step up and protect their constituents. And if they won’t, we’re going to elect new leaders. act.indivisible.org/sign/ice-o

What's happening in Minnesota is an escalation of things that have happened in other cities - Chicago, Portland, LA, DC. It could be coming to your city next.

I don't say that to scare you. But it might be good to ask yourself:

If this was happening in my neighborhood, who would I reach out to? How would I take action? Who would I trust?

Start building those connections now. If you already have some, strengthen them.

Dear Journalists,

If a government official gives a statement that is easily disproven by multiple angles of high quality video, it is ok, encouraged even, to call them out on it in real time. That's called doing a journalism.

Secondly, although you all work for different media outlets, there is no reason why you can't sort of 'team up' and keep pressing the issue rather than letting them wriggle out by completely changing the line of questioning. This is also known as doing a Journalism.

Thanks!
