I got sick of Windows, Facebook & Twitter, so I'm giving myself the gift of not using that bullshit anymore. Getting off the proprietary software train.
New Linux Mint user, vibes to Synthwave, poutine nut, and vinyl enthusiast. I love cassette futurism & cyberpunk aesthetics.
Do I know everything about 80's retro cult classics? Nope, but I can learn.
I won't post / boost more than once per day, so I won't spam your timeline.

Time for an update?
Long before the internet, a different breed of tech enthusiast was busy exploring the phone network. These βphone phreaksβ were the original hackers, and one of their most legendary feats was using a simple 2600Hz tone to gain control of phone lines in the US.
https://mastodon.social/@kmcd (Kevin McDonald) built the βPhone Phreak Emulator.β Itβs a simple web app that listens to your whistle and tells you how close you get to that magic frequency.

You know what doesn't happen anymore? Coins falling on the floor when you take off your pants and fold them up before bed.
Gone the way of dialup modern squeals, payphones and subway tokens.

I loved Zaphod's. I frequented it often, and it had an awesome vibe.
If you didn't already know, Swizzles has an industrial night every two weeks or so, I believe.
This is a continuation from yesterdays post, where I cleaned out some of my dormant Mastodon followers.
Today, I removed 12 dormant (since at least 2024) accounts on Mastodon which I previously followed.
Stepping into 2026, it's not a bad idea to clean-up your profile. You too can too, just follow this guide: Preferences > Follows and Followers > Then sort by "Last Active"
Stepping into 2026, I just cleaned out some of my Mastodon "Followers", most of which were not active since (at least) 2023.
Out 37 dormant (and removed) Mastodon followers from my profile, 10 of those had new instances - which I requested to follow - if I wasn't already.
So, as we step into 2026, you too can clean out your profile, just follow this guide:
Preferences > Follows and Followers > Then sort by "Last Active"
Cleaning up people who I'm "Following" however, that's tomorrows task.
Happy New Years!
Hopefully yours is more low key than Alex Murphy from RoboCop.

As the holidays are right around the corner, I'll be posting my wishlist of items that caught my eye yet again this year.
The Automatic Cassette by TACS is a retro-styled automatic watch inspired by cassette players. Nostalgic elements like cassette-style dial, playback icons, volume-style crown, and tape-deck textures bring back the analog era.

This isn't exactly the same, but quite similar to the "Inner Pyramid" by Ray Howlett which appeared in "Unification II" and a great article about it is in the source below.
As an aside, these are extremely expensive.

If you love Star Trek, booze, and have $60 to $160 to spend depending if you want a display case, look no further. You can buy your very own bottle of Kanar.
Note: Unfortunately, Santa looks like he still only ships Kanar to the USA. No international shipping.

The MDR Dasher Keyboard is inspired by the "Severance" TV show. Switch between layouts by replacing the magnetic top sheet. Turn your keyboard into a full 60% layout on the left, or swap the trackball module for a numpad.

The Commodore Ultimate is not an emulator, not a PC. Retrogaming nostalgia is back. Powered by a FPGA recreation of the original motherboard, wrapped in glowing game-reactive LEDs (or classic beige of course).
Order now from Santa's shop for $299 - plus tax.
